Double Sideband - Suppressed Carrier - Amplitude Modulation (DSB-SC-AM)

Drawback of DSB-FC AM:

  • AM wave has carrier signal and two sidebands in spectrum.

DSB-SC AM :

  • In order to overcome the wastage of transmitted power and bandwidth in AM, Carrier Suppression Method is introduced.
  • In DSB-SC, the modulated wave consists of only upper and lower sidebands and the carrier is suppressed.
  • Such modulation is called as "DSB-SC AM".
In DSB-SC-AM, 66.7% of power is saved due to suppression of the carrier wave.
