Helical Antenna:
- Helical Antenna is an antenna consisting of one or more conducting wires wound in the form of helix.
- It is a broadband VHF and UHF antenna
- It is used to provide circular polarization
Structure:
- It consists of the helix of thick copper wire which is connected to the ground plate
- The helix is fed by a coaxial cable
Design Parameters:
- The radiation of Helical antenna depends on : the diameter of the helix (D), the turn spacing (S) and Pitch angle
Mode of Operations:
- Normal or Perpendicular Mode
- Axial or Beam Mode
Applications:
- It is used for space and satellite communication
- It is used for telemetry link
- It is used in Radio astronomy
- It is used in VHF and UHF applications
