Antenna Polarization & Its Types - Polarization Loss Factor (PLF)

Polarization of an Antenna:

  • It is defined as the orientation of the wave radiated by the antenna in the far field region
Types of Polarization:
  • Linear Polarization
    • Vertical Polarization
    • Horizontal Polarization
  • Circular Polarization
  • Elliptical Polarization
Circular Polarization:
  • If two linearly polarized waves are simultaneously produced in the same direction from the same antenna, then the circularly polarized waves are produced.
  • Conditions for circular polarization:
    • Two linearly polarized waves are perpendicular to each other
    • Equal amplitude and 90 degree phase difference
Elliptical Polarization:
  • Two linearly polarized waves perpendicular to each other
  • Amplitudes are not equal
