Types of Magnetic Materials and Its Comparison

Sources of Magnetic Materials:

  • Around a current carrying conductor
  • Around a magnet
Most of the substances exhibit magnetic effects in it.
Magnetic materials are the materials that are either attracted or repelled when placed in an external magnetic field. 

Types of Magnetic Materials:
  • Dia Magnetic
    • Dia Magnetic substances are repelled by a magnet
    • Ex: Copper, Gold, Silver, Air, water, etc.,
    • When the dia magnetic material is placed in magnetic field, the lines of force tend to avoid it.
  • Para Magnetic
    • Para Magnetic materials are attracted by a magnet
    • Ex: Aluminium, Oxygen, Platinum, etc.,
    • When the material is placed in magnetic field, the lines of force prefer to pass through the these materials rather than air.
  • Ferro magnetic
    • These materials are strongly attracted by a magnet
    • Ex: Iron, Nickel, Cobalt, etc.,
    • When Ferro magnetic materials are placed in magnetic field, the lines of force tend to crowd into the substance.
