PIN Diode: Definition, Equivalent Circuit, Operation and Applications

PIN Diode:

  • A PIN diode is a diode with a wide, undoped intrinsic semiconductor region between a P-type and N-type semiconductor
  • It acts as a electrically variable resistor which is related to the thickness of the 'i' region
Operation of PIN diode:
  • At zero bias condition
  • Forward bias
  • Reverse bias
Applications:
  • PIN Diode can be used as a Switch
  • PIN Attenuator
  • PIN Phaseshiter
    • Transmission Type switched line phase shifter
    • Reflection Type hybrid coupled phase shifter
    • Transmission Type loaded line phase-shifter
